Interview with Kofi Odem Boateng, IMS Manager at CADS Africa, Ghana. CADS Contract and Services Ltd. has emerged as a beacon of excellence in the ever-changing environment of facilities management. Established in 1995, the company has grown to become a major provider of Integrated Facility Management Services, providing a comprehensive array of services such as Catering, Housekeeping, Janitorial & Cleaning, and Facility Maintenance. The IMS Manager, Kofi Odem Boateng, oversaw the process that led to CADS receiving its first ISO certification on December 10, 2020. In this exclusive interview, Kofi discusses the strategic decision to pursue certification, its influence on operations, and the critical role DNV auditors played.

Q: Can you introduce yourself, your company, and its different activities?

Kofi Odem Boateng: My name is Kofi Odem Boateng, and I proudly serve as the IMS Manager for CADS Contract and Services Ltd. and CADS Catering Services Ltd. In my role, I spearheaded the initiative leading to CADS achieving its first ISO Certification. Since December 10, 2020, we have been steadfast on our journey of continuous improvement. Presently, I lead a dynamic team of four consisting of Koby Afaawuah-QHSE Supervisor, Samuel Quaye- Food Safety Supervisor, Abigail Amoah- QHSE/Food Safety Officer and Humphrey Nikoi- Document Control Coordinator, dedicated to ensuring that CADS not only complies with ISO requirements but also adheres to industry best practices.

CADS, founded in 1995, has grown into a well-known Integrated Facility Management Service provider, focusing on Catering, Housekeeping, Janitorial & Cleaning, and Facility Maintenance (Mechanical, Electrical, Plumbing, and HVAC). Our thorough makeover has established us as an industry leader.

Q: What was the main reason driving your strategic decision to initiate the certification process for your prestigious institution?

Our primary driving force behind obtaining the ISO certification stemmed from our unwavering commitments to deliver tailor-made services to our valued customers. This journey necessitated the elevation of our standards and the continuous improvement of our processes, to not only meet but exceed international benchmarks. Our pursuit of ISO certification reflects our dedication to excellence, ensuring that every facet of our operations aligns with the highest global standards, ultimately enhancing the quality and customization of the services we provide to our discerning clientele.

Q: In your opinion, what was the added value of our certification on the performance and the operability of your certified branches?

 Certification has been a game changer for us, opening us new opportunities for significant development and expansion. Aside the growth, it has provided us with priceless information, encouraging a culture of consistency and efficiency in our day-to-day operations. The certification has not only raised our profile in the market, but it has also established us as a leader in regulatory and statutory compliance, establishing trust from our stakeholders.

Furthermore, this certification has enabled CADS to launch strategic initiatives that have seamlessly knitted the fabric of continuous improvement into the fabric of our organizational culture. In essence, the accreditation has strengthened our foundation, allowing us to grow and evolve in an ever-changing commercial context.

Q: How can you describe our auditor’s intervention and methodology?

 DNV auditors played an important part in our journey to excellence, by providing constructive criticism and accurate feedback that serves as a catalyst for continual progress. Their collaborative approach goes beyond mere assessment; they actively collaborate with us to improve the efficiency and effectiveness  of our processes, motivating us to perform at a higher level. DNV auditors gave essential insights to developing a culture of continuous improvement, enabling us to not only achieve but maintain the highest standards in service delivery. Their dedication to our success goes beyond mere evaluation; it is a dynamic relationship that urges us toward higher efficiency and operational excellence.

Q: What are the criteria for choosing DNV and for which priorities and how many sites/branches are now certified by DNV? And against which standards?

DNV emerged as our preferred certification partner, garnering high recommendations from both our trusted consultants and Harlequin International ( a sister-company). The endorsement was a testament to DNV's reputation for excellence in certification services.

Presently, we proudly hold certifications for two key sites: Accra and Takoradi, namely ISO 9001:2015, 22000:2018, 14001:2015, and 45001:2018. These certifications underscore our commitment to quality, environmental responsibility, occupational health and safety, and adherence to food safety standards.
